Shakil's Story: A Plea for Support

This is a story of the swift action of Qadr. Shakil, a dedicated family man - average middle class person - working day and night to provide for his young family (12,9 and 2 years old) and his wife.  He has been struck by a sudden and devastating accident. While riding his bike, he was hit by a vehicle, resulting in severe injuries to both legs. Despite seeking treatment at multiple hospitals, the heartbreaking decision was made to amputate both legs above the knee.

Facing the Future

Shakil's ordeal is far from over. He faces extensive rehabilitation and the long-term challenge of using prosthetics. The financial burden is immense. Despite exhausting his savings, Shakil has accumulated significant debt (total 10K USD) with a portion ( 5K USD) accruing interest for his treatment. We all know how expensive life is in Bangladesh. He also lost his job, as job requirement was to travel extensively with his bike.

An opportunity for us

We all know, Allah SWAT has a plan for him and his family. Allah SWAT’s promise is true. It is up to us now - can we be the vehicle of Allah’s mercy to Shakil and his family ? Through this  platform - Enjoining Good USA, we aim to raise at least $5,000 USD to alleviate Shakil's immediate financial strain, specifically the interest-bearing debt. This will allow him to focus on his recovery without the added pressure. After taking care of immediate need, we will work with the family long term and our believe you will be part of this journey

Please open your heart. May Allah (SWT) reward your generosity and keep you and your families safe from all harm. Ameen.

Completed Causes:

Five marginal families have received support from this fund so far. Three of those were able to get rid of their interest bearing loans, while the other two have their own income source (Cows and Auto rickshaw were purchased for the families).

In Ramadan 2024, we are planning to support two different marginal families under this project.

Project 1: One marginal family from Joipurhat, Bangladesh, impacted by high interest long term loans from multiple NGOs and banks, seeking support to pay-off their interest bearing loans. Total target amount for this project is $2500.

Project 2: Another young man from Mohadebpur, Naogaon, Bangladesh, who used to drive electric auto-rickshaw to support his ailing mother, wife and kids, had to sell off his income source to keep pace with the loan interests taken from NGO to purchase the auto-rickshaw. Now he is working as a street food vendor and really struggling to make his ends meet. The estimated fund needed to buy an electric auto-rickshaw is 2400$.

In Ramadan 2022, we collected some fund to help a marginal family back in Bangladesh. This was used to be a decent lower-middle class family a couple of years ago. With loss of job for the only earning member during the pandemic and a number of other crisis, this family (with two school going kids and an ailing mother) is going through a miserable condition for last year or so. To make the situation worse, they took loans with high interest from local NGOs and banks. This is a zakat eligible cause as the collected funds will be strictly used to pay off the loans. Please come forward to contribute to this cause from your zakat/sadaqa funds and help us to pay off, at least, the Interest bearing portion of their loans.
